Marketing Cloud Basic Information :
Marketing cloud is available in Basic, Pro, Corporate and Enterprise editions.
Account name is set when the Marketing cloud account is provisioned and for each account a unique Identification code known as MID is assigned. Depending on the edition we have a tenant type which helps us understand how the account is structured.
Below are the tenant types :
Enterprise 2.0 - Here tenant is the top-level account and includes all business units. (Multiple MID's for Enterprise-edition accounts)
Enterprise 1.0 - Here tenant is the top-level account and includes all associated lock and published business units (Multiple MID's for Enterprise-edition accounts)
Core - A tenant is a single account (Single top-level account with one MID)
Agency - Each top-level account and each associated client account is a separate tenant. (One top level account with each associated client account as a separate tenant)
To find the MID, we can hover over the username on the top left corner of the marketing cloud and can see the MID. Also we can click on setup after we hover over the user name, and search for Account settings in the Quick find box and navigate to Account settings where we can find the Account Name and MID listed as Account ID.
Also we can verify the email reply address, add header and footer. The process to verify the email address is important as this is used as default for marketing cloud sends. We can review the security settings by searching for Security settings in the Quick Find box and navigating to the Security Settings.
We can search for roles in the Quick Find box, and navigate to roles. We have the below roles.
- Marketing Cloud Administrator (one who assigns roles to users and manages channels, apps, tools)
- Marketing Cloud Viewer(one who views cross channel marketing activity results
- Marketing Cloud Channel manager(One who creates and executes cross channel interactive marketing campaigns and administers specific channels like Email Studio)
- Marketing Cloud Security Administrator (one who maintains security and manages user activity and alerts)
- Marketing Cloud Content Editor/Publisher.
We can also create custom roles by navigating to roles and click on create for new role and select permission to Allow or Deny for this role according to our need. To create a new user we can navigate to users and click on create. After creating the user, we can apply a role to the user.
If we are working with Enterprise 2.0 tenant, we can organize marketing cloud by business units. This is mainly useful when we have multiple divisions/departments. We can then create a business unit for each division/department. The user across the business unit can access only division/department specific content.
To create business unit, navigate to setup in marketing cloud and click on business units, then click on create to get started. Then give all the necessary details and create the business unit. Once the business unit is created we can add users by navigating to setup -> Users, then select the user and click on Manage Business Units to add a user to a business unit. Select a default unit for the user and assign the user to business units. We can also assign multiple users to a business unit.
