I should start with the director Nag Ashwin A.K.A "Nagi" for this film. We all know that Nagi went to US and completed film direction course. He did a couple of films which were also good, out of which "Mahanati" is one which caught everyone's attention and was blockbuster in 2018 and grabbed good number of film awards. Making a documentary film a blockbuster is not an easy task. After watching this film Kalki, it just show how ambitious Nag Ashwin as a director. When Bahubali has released, everyone said it was a visual wonder. But looking at Kalki movie visuals, VFX, graphics, I think this is the new benchmark for the Indian films that too at such low budget. Believe or not, I literally felt like I am watching some Hollywood film in Telugu dubbing.
There are only 3 locations in this film named "Kashi", "Complex" and "Shambala" in the film. All 3 locations were beautifully designed. The vehicles, guns, costumes, gadgets, all looked futuristic as they should for Sci-Fi film. The concept of points over money was good. In a nut shell, Kashi is the place where poor live and complex is the place where rich live. People with 1M points get entry to complex. So, our hero Bhairava's (Prabhas) aim is to go complex and he does bounties to get the points. I do not want to tell you about Shambala location as it will be a spoiler. Connecting this Sci-Fi film with our epic (puranas) Mahabharata is brilliantly done.
Entire film was one man show by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. I took a bow for his dedication towards cinema as getting Prosthetic makeup everyday of the shoot at 80+ age is not a small thing. After long time I liked Prabhas look in this film, he got into his comfort zone of comedy and action and he did great job there. I was little worried about Deepika Padukone dubbing (most trolled in recent times) but seems it is corrected in the film. But there are still accent issues present for many characters. For example, take the kid who is with Ashwatthama. I am not sure this is done on purpose to make audience feel like they are watching some Hollywood scale film. You will get surprised with cameo appearances in the film as we did not see them anywhere in the promotions.
We rarely get to see proper Sci-Fi films in India and this is the one of them. I recommend you to go watch the film in multiplex cinemas. The movie ticket cost is little high where single screens double the ticket cost and multiplex cinemas increased by 80% but believe me movie is all worth watch🙂. Before you go and watch, I highly recommend watching animation series with 2 episodes on Amazon Prime released by the movie team to establish the location, Hero, Bujji, Complex, Points system, etc.
