Update: May 11th, Monday
Today I have installed the Android 11 (R) Developer Preview 4 on Poco F1. If we see the earlier versions of the Android, they used to have only 3 developer builds and then Google used to start rolling public beta builds. However, this time due to lockdown, Google has pushed the Public Beta builds to June and introduced new developer preview build 4.
The below are some of the changes I noticed in this build.
1. There 2 new icon shapes added in this build. They look weird and I do not think anybody use them.

The below are some of the changes I noticed in this build.
1. There 2 new icon shapes added in this build. They look weird and I do not think anybody use them.
2. When a conversation is marked as important, you will see the DP display picture / profile picture of the person in the status bar instead of app icon.
eg: In the below picture, I have set whatsapp messages from my mom as important and hence I see my mom profile pic in the status bar instead of Whatsapp icon (left image). When the notification is expanded you will see a small app icon overlapping profile pic (right image).
3. You will now see an option to Disconnect and toggle Auto-Connect at "INDIVIDUAL" Wi-Fi connection level. Earlier you can do it only at entire Wi-Fi level, I mean you can either turn on or turn off Wi-Fi on your phone but cannot disconnect individual Wi-Fi.
4. In the recent apps switcher screen, we no longer see most used apps at the bottom of the screen. Instead we see 3 new options.
First one is screenshot, from now you no need to click power button + Volume up to take screenshot. Simply swipe up and click on Screenshot. It will save the screenshot to your device.
Second one is Select, you can select the text from one app and paste it in another app with this option.
Third one is Share, it is same as the screenshot but this will not save the screenshot to device instead it will directly open the share menu where you can select the app and share the screenshot without wasting the memory.

Today's tech post is about all new version of Google's Android OS that is Android 11. The internal code name of this OS is still following the alphabetical order and it is R. [Note: Google has announced during official launch of Android 10 that going further the OS versions are named with numerical value and will not have dessert names.]
I have managed to install Android 11 Developer Preview 2. All thanks to Google's project treble.
Coming to the new features, on UI and fonts front, I do not see much of a change. Animations were not changed. We still have switchable navigations gestures which is a good thing.
The notable new features are
1. Inbuilt screen recorder with audio. This feature is most awaited one on Android. It really helps in explaining how to use an application to others (or) scenarios where we need to report issues, etc.
2. We have inbuilt support of bubbles for supported conversational apps like Google messenger. In future, the feature can be made supported for more applications. Now this feature is there from long time on Facebook messenger, but feature coming from OS is note worthy as any app developer can use it straight from API.
3. Notifcation History: We have several 3rd party apps available on playstore for this functionality. However, it is good to see it from OS straight. With this feature turned on, we never miss a notification though we accidentally cleared from notification panel.
4. The notification panel got completed change over from earlier OS versions. It now has 3 seperate sections - Conversations, Alerting Notifications and Silent Notifications. As it is just DP2, cannot comment on this. I personally felt this needs more work. There are padding issues. It makes notification panel look ugly and scrambled.
5. Wallpaper settings has new section called Clock style. At the time of this blog, there is only 1 clock style. In further builds I think Google add more styles.
6. "All the time" permission is now removed from the location access. Now apps can only have permission while using the app or only once.
7. Settings page looks more polished now. Menus and sub menus are more streamlined.
I will keep this post updated with next developer builds of Android 11.
